My first day...

So I got inside the school building (which had no Ac) and saw the stairs. Great I had to lug my luggage up 4 flights and as I started some older gentleman started talking to me again. I was sooo lost and was ready to give up but he made me follow him. Thank god because he showed me the elevator that dropped me right off in front of the directors door. I sat down to wait for her and just relaxed. What an ordeal. I got registered, clean up (even though I felt gross), and was taken to class (which I had missed an hour and a half of already). I sat down and got to work. I learned how to say they call me Brianna: Volam sa Brianna. I am from America: Som z Ameriky. And I am a student: Som studentka. Then it was lunch time. I opted out of lunch (since it was an hour and a half) to go to the dorm and shower. So I went back to the director’s office along with another guy who had to register (he actually is a professor in Oxford but I get back to that later). At first I thought that I was going to have to take the bus again with my bags but she called a taxi and lent me a tram ticket for the way back. I went out in the hall to gather my stuff and some guy who works for the school asked if I needed help. I said no but he took my bag anyway and we went down in the elevator. But I had to find my roommate and ask for the key to our dorm since there is only one. He said It would be at the reception and I said what if it is not. So we got out of the elevator and he told me to wait there that he would be back in 5 seconds and he asked my roommates name. (Which I later confirmed by my roommate , that he ran in the lunch room and yelled Autumn Siegel from the USA! Autumn Siegel from the USA! To ask her about the key) meanwhile I was just waiting thinking the taxi would leave without me but then he came back sprinting across the courtyard. It’s at the hotel. Let’s go! And he grabbed my bags and walked out. (Side note- I just found out today that his name was Peter) He started speaking with the taxi driver and loading my stuff. Once again I was completely lost. Then this other guy walked up and started talking to Peter in Slovak. Then we both got in the taxi. I was confused. He said he forgot his food he had to bring for the reception and had to go back to the dorm. I was a bit relieved since I wouldn’t have to speak to the taxi driver and sign my way through that and we could split the bill. (It ended up being 7 euros which he paid 4 and I paid 3) We got out and I said I was fine and could carry my thing but he insisted on helping me. He carried a bag inside and asked the guy at the desk for my room key in Slovak. He took my bag upstairs for me and I thank him profusely. This was the third guy that day that helped me with my luggage. I was probably looking a little pathetic but I was glad for the help each time. So I was off to my room showered and left with no time to spare. I was late getting back to the school but the lecturer was later than I so it wasn’t too bad. After the lecture we went over to the main building for the open ceremony (where they read off a bunch of documents in Slovak).  Then a band played. (I will post a short video of them for your enjoyment. J ) Then we all (the 160 student plus all else involved in the program) went  back to the school for dinner. First they had kids from each country come up and say their version of bon appetite and cheers. This was pretty cool It was very good and I was super hungry!  They had some stuffed meat, pierogies, potatoes, wine and much more. I ate sitting with my roommate and 3 other Americans (2 from Pittsburg- Zack/Jesse and 1 one from Tennessee- Richard). Then we, well four of us went to the mall so they could buy English to Slovak dictionaries and we headed home. I showered, tried skpye, figured out that my roommate is pretty cool and went to bed after getting organized a bit. The people down in the courtyard were super loud and the sun rose really early but other than that I had a restful night. What a first day in Slovakia!
