Day 6 Sabota- (Saturaday)

Today we only had class in the morning because we had an excursion to a nearby city named Modra (Blue- for the blue dye used in the ceramics in the region). Today’s class was mostly review and we each got to work with the teaching on reading individually (which was fantastic). After class, Autumn and I went to the mall to buy some groceries and then I went to Modra. (Autumn was going to go as well but she is finishing up her master’s thesis and wanted time to work on that.) So I was able to hang out with 3 Italian girls (Isabella, Marina, and Veronica), a Spanish girl (Beatrice) and a French girl (Caroline). This was great fun… and I learned some new words in Italian. Also, one of the Slovak guys (Jacob but pronounced ya- cobe) told me that the people here all know my last name because tri is 3 and filett is pieces of fish… I thought this was pretty funny and hope you do too!!! When we got to Modra we went to a winery and saw where they mix, ferment, and store the wine. I learned that the giant metal barrels have strips that they can run a liquid through to heat or cool the wine. On my pictures you will be able to see the frost (and by the way you can click on the pictures to make them larger). Then from the winery we traveled by bus to the ceramics shop. This was amazing. We watched a potter make some vases out of clay, a women painting ceramics after the first round of firing as well as the room where they fire the pottery. After we walked around town for a while and sat to have a coffee (I didn’t have one. Beatrice and I played chess : ) As we rode back on the bus I was able to speak with a native Slovak (Jacob but pronounced ya- cobe) about the school system and popular Slovak names. I also asked about the surname Gavron but he said it didn’t sound Slovak. After this long day, I came home, napped, showered, and did laundry with Autumn. Tomorrow a group of us are going canoeing on the river!

P.S. Sorry it took song long to get the videos up. I was having some technical difficulties and there are so many!
